This condition is frequently found in the big toe but can affect any toenail.

Several factors can contribute to the development of an ingrowing toenail, including:
- Improper Nail Trimming: Cutting toenails too short or incorrectly shaping the nail.
- Tight Footwear: Shoes that are too tight or narrow can press the toenail into the skin, promoting ingrowth.
- Toe Injuries: Trauma to the toe, such as stubbing it or dropping something heavy on it, can cause the nail to grow abnormally.
- Genetics: Some people are more prone to ingrown toenails due to inherited nail shapes or other factors.
- Abnormal Nail Shape: Naturally curved or thick toenails can be more like to grow.
- Biomechanical Issues: Where the foot turn inward or through fallen arches (flat feet) which can cause additional pressure of the big toe.
Treatment for ingrowing toenails can vary based on the severity of the condition. Regular podiatry appointments can help to manage the condition but a Partial Nail Removal (PNA) can sometimes be required if more conservative treatment is not effective. This is done under local anaesthistic and phenol is used to prevent the section of the nail regrowing.

What is a Stubborn Verrucae?
Why use Corrective Surgery?
When other, previous treatments fail, surgical removal may offer a more definitive solution. The goal is to remove the verruca entirely, reducing the risk of recurrence and allowing patients to regain comfort and mobility.
How Surgery works
The procedure is a minor surgical intervention performed under local anaesthetic to ensure minimal discomfort. The verruca is carefully excised, focusing on removing it completely from the affected area. Recovery is usually swift, with most patients able to resume normal activities within a few days.
