ATHLETE’S FOOT
Athlete’s Foot is a common condition that will affect up to one in four people at some point in their life.
It is caused by a fungi that thrives in warm, moist areas like public swimming pools, showers and the locker rooms. Wearing tight and/or damp shoes also increases your risk of developing athlete’s foot.
Symptoms include:
- Itching
- Burning
- Peeling skin – especially between the toes
- Redness
- Blisters
- Cracks in severe cases
Athlete’s foot is contagious so it is essential that it does not go untreated. Good foot hygiene helps to prevent the condition. At Total Foot Health, we can effectively help you to treat persistent infections through expert podiatry care

FUNGAL NAIL INFECTIONS (Onychomycosis)
Fungal nail infections are caused by the same fungi that causes athlete’s foot. In fact, athlete’s foot can develop first and spread to the nails if left untreated.
Symptoms of fungal nail infections include:
- Thickened nails
- Crumbling nails
- Yellow, white or brown discoloured nails
- Nails may separate from the nail bed
- A distinct malodour
- Early intervention minimises the potential for permanent nail damage and the quicker restoration of the nail appearance.
We offer advanced treatment for thick, discoloured toenails, as well as nail surgery for more severe cases.

PARTIAL NAIL ABLATION (PNA) – TOENAIL SURGERY FOR INGROWN TOENAILS
Ingrown toenails occur when the nail grows into the surrounding skin causing redness, pain and potential infection.
Causes of ingrown toenails include:
- Improper nail trimming (either cutting too short or rounded edges)
- Wearing tight or ill fitting shoes
- Injury or repeated pressure on the toe
- Genetic predisposition to curved nails
Toenail surgery is usually required when more conservative measures have proven unsuccessful.
Surgery is a relatively quick procedure that is performed under local anaesthetic. Most patients recover quickly with minimal discomfort.
