Soft tissue mobilisation

A patient having STM following her neuroma surgery

Recently Catherine and David attended training for Soft Tissue Mobilisation. This is a manual therapy using palpation and massage of specific tissues to treat soft tissue pain. This was a two-day course and involved learning and practising different massage techniques on each other.

What a lovely way to learn!

Soft tissue mobilisation

Lyndon having his treatment which he finds very helpful

At Total Foot Health we use STM to treat conditions such as plantar fasciitis, chronic ankle sprains and some tendon problems. The theory is that massaging the fascia and layers of tissue, in problem areas, allows the area to return to a more flexible, fluid state that is comfortable and pain free.

This is a lovely adjunct if people are struggling to maintain their rehabilitation from plantar fasciitis, or post-surgery to reduce swelling and to release painful ‘knots’ in their calf muscle. Careful palpation and massage is used to relax the tension in the fascia, enhance local circulation and improve neurological response. An added benefit is that it feels very relaxing and optimises recovery.

If you think that you may benefit from our most relaxing treatment please give us a call. We aim to keep you walking, working and playing pain free.
