Laser Scanned Custom Orthotics
Laser Scanned Custom Orthotics – At a Glance
Custom orthotics are individually prescribed medical insoles designed to support, align and improve the function of the foot and ankle. They work by correcting biomechanical imbalances, redistributing pressure and reducing excessive or inefficient movement during walking and standing.
At Total Foot Health, custom orthotics are created using precise laser scanning technology. This allows us to capture an accurate three-dimensional imprint of your foot, ensuring the orthotics are tailored specifically to your structure, movement and clinical needs. Unlike generic insoles, laser scanned orthotics are designed to fit comfortably inside your footwear while providing targeted support.
Custom orthotics are commonly used to help manage foot pain, heel pain, arch issues and pressure-related problems. By improving foot alignment, they can also reduce strain on the ankles, knees, hips and lower back, supporting more comfortable and efficient movement over time.
What are Custom Orthotics?
Why do I need Custom Orthotics?
How are Custom Orthotics diagnosed and fitted?
Our custom orthoses are made from an accurate prescription to help restore balance throughout the musculoskeletal system and improve foot function. In order to ensure that you have the very best opportunity to get the most benefit from your orthoses we provide a package of care. This includes the orthotics themselves and their fitting and any further analysis needed at that point. You will need to be reviewed after a short period of time as often the foot needs help to adapt to its new way of working. As such, these follow-ups are also included as part of our package so we know that we are looking after you as well as possible.
Frequently Asked Questions about Custom Orthotics
What are custom orthotics?
Custom orthotics are prescription insoles designed to support, align, and correct your foot posture. They reduce strain, absorb shock, and enhance comfort during walking.
What conditions can orthotics help with?
They’re used for flat feet, high arches, heel pain, ball-of-foot pain (metatarsalgia), and callus formation. They can also relieve pain in the ankles, knees, hips, and lower back.
How are orthotics made?
We use a precise laser scan of your feet to create a 3D model. Your orthotics are then manufactured based on your unique prescription to ensure a perfect fit and optimal support.
Will I need follow-up appointments?
Yes. Your foot may need time to adapt to the new support. Follow-up reviews are part of our care package to ensure your orthotics are working as intended.
How are orthotics different from shop-bought insoles?
Over-the-counter insoles offer general cushioning, but custom orthotics are tailored to your foot shape and medical needs. They correct biomechanical imbalances and provide targeted relief.
Will they fit in my normal shoes?
Yes. Custom orthotics are designed to fit comfortably into most shoes, similar to standard insoles, but with far greater precision and support.
How long do custom orthotics last?
With proper care, most custom orthotics last between 1 to 5 years, depending on usage. We recommend periodic reviews to assess wear and ongoing suitability.
