Achilles Tendonitis

What is Achilles Tendonitis?

Achilles Tendonitis is an inflammation of large tendon that runs down the back of your lower leg. The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in your body and it connects the muscles in your calf to your heel bone. We use this tendon all the time, whether we are standing, walking, running, jumping and even standing on tip toes.

Why have I developed Achilles Tendonitis?

Achilles Tendonitis can develop as a result of repetitive stress to the tendon which could be as a result of sudden changes in activity, overuse or because of tissue degeneration. This condition can also be linked to plantar fasciitis as the two processes are quite similar. If you experience pain or stiffness in the tendon when you wake up in the morning, pain which worsens with activity or constant swelling that gets worse with activity, then you should call us for an assessment so that we can provide the necessary treatment before this gets worse. A neglected Achilles Tendonitis could result in a rupture of the tendon.
