Total Foot Health - Teresa RogersThey say the cobbler’s children go worse shod – well Teresa, our wonderful practice manager, has recently had need of our expert services at TFH. As part of her weekly exercise routine Teresa walks 3 miles, twice a week, to and from work. Six months ago she began to get pain in her foot which eventually began to kerb her walking activities.  Let’s hear from Teresa herself:

“When my foot symptoms first started I ignored it for a while, which I know was the wrong thing to do now. The trouble is it did not get better, in fact the opposite, getting worse over time. I had to wear my trainers all the time, even to social events! I asked Edward at the practice what he thought could be wrong. After taking my history, examining my foot and undertaking an ultrasound scan he diagnosed a Morton’s neuroma. He explained this was like a trapped nerve in the front of the foot, which explained why it hurt more with enclosed shoes as the nerve was pinched even harder.

Mortons Neuroma Copyright Total Foot HealthEdward recommended that I undergo an ultrasound guided injection with local anaesthetic and steroid to reduce any inflammation and free up the nerve movement.  Since undergoing the injection my foot has been less troublesome, but he told me it might take two months to see the final result. I am still in my trainers at present, but my foot is making progress.”

Teresa was a brilliant patient and she even allowed us to use her as a team training exercise so we were able to observe the techniques used for the injection. When asked if the injection hurt Teresa said “the injection was a small sting, but over and done with really quickly. I also had a funny feeling in my tummy, which Lyndon explained was due to the proximity of the injection to the nerve.”

We are all very hopeful this will sort Teresa’s foot pain out and allow her to wear her party shoes to a forthcoming black tie event, instead of her trainers or boots!
